چکیده

In this study we assessed the effect of body postural changes from the supine (Sup) to the upright (Up) position on the magnitude and phase of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and the phase-locking between the heart rhythm and respiration. In eight healthy human subjects, electrocardiograms (ECG) and respiratory signals were recorded. The magnitude and phase of RSA were evaluated by selective averaging of R-R interval changes from multiple respiratory cycles over the respiratory phase. For the assessment of cardiorespiratory coordination, we analysed the phase-locking between heart rate, computed from R-R intervals of ECG, and respiratory rate, computed from intervals of inspiratory onsets of respiration, using Hilbert transform. A significant decrease in the magnitude of RSA and percentage and duration of phase-locking between heart rate and respiratory rate was observed during Up as compared to Sup. Further, there was a significant increase in the phase of RSA during Up as compared to Sup. In conclusion, measures of RSA and interaction between cardiac and respiratory rhythms are affected by body posture in humans. Keywords-heart, heart rate, phase locking, respiration, respiratory sinus arrhythmia

Effects of Balance Training on Postural Control in Athletes with Chronic Ankle Instability: A Systematic Review

Objective The Objective Ankle sprains are among the most common injuries in athletes. One of the limitations of people with chronic ankle instability is the lack of postural control. Balance and coordination training are among the most common interventions for people with chronic ankle instability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of balance training on postural co...

Functional Synergies Underlying Control of Upright Posture during Changes in Head Orientation

BACKGROUND Studies of human upright posture typically have stressed the need to control ankle and hip joints to achieve postural stability. Recent studies, however, suggest that postural stability involves multi degree-of-freedom (DOF) coordination, especially when performing supra-postural tasks. This study investigated kinematic synergies related to control of the body's position in space (tw...

The Effect of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Postural Stability After Acute Stroke: A Clinical Trial

Introduction: Balance impairment is a common problem and a major cause of motor disability after stroke. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether low-frequency repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) improves the postural balance problems in stroke patients. Methods: This randomized double blind clinical trial with 12 weeks follow-up was conducted on stroke patients. Trea...

Effect of a Long-Term Corrective Exercises With Using Brace on Cobb Angle and Postural Control of a Girl With Adolescence Idiopathic Scoliosis

Purpose: Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine in which the resulting imbalance accompanied by the changes in muscle and nervous components can harm the postural control. Various treatments have been suggested so far to correct scoliosis, in which using corrective exercises along with brace are essential to limit the growing curvature, improve spine stability and postural cont...
